Having acne on your face is a very embarrassing situation. If it were really up to you, you would rather stay home until the big zit on your face disappears than go to work or school with that big red spot. Unfortunately, there really is nothing much you can do at the moment; however, you can try a few ways in order to cure acne at a much faster way. If you follow a few simple tips regularly, there is also a less likely chance that your acne will come back to haunt you.

Now, you might think that to cure acne, you will have to spend a lot of money. That is really not the case. There are many remedies available right at your reach that can give the best results at very low costs.

The strategy to cure acne is actually very basic and also very easy to adapt until it becomes a routine. It is called the three step method where you have to clean your face, apply some creams and then moisturize.

Cleaning your face is very important if you want to cure acne. Acne is usually caused by trapped dirt inside your pores that could lead to infection and thus become that unsightly figure. When you clean your face, using soap and water is fine, but for a thorough and deep-seated cleaning, you must use facial cleansers.

The next stage to help cure acne fast is to apply some chemicals on your spots. The most common chemical used to cure acne is benzoyl peroxide. This chemical is known to oxygenate the skin, thus, acne cannot enlarge at the spot where you have applied it. When you choose products that contain benzoyl peroxide, make sure that it has 2.5% strength. These can easily be obtained at pharmacies and always remember to check the labels before purchasing them.

The finishing step to cure acne is to moisturize your skin. This is to help your skin absorb the benzoyl peroxide more efficiently. Since the chemicals could have left negative effects to the skin like flaking and drying, applying moisturizer can get rid of such side effects.

If all your efforts to cure acne results to nothing, there is still one last hope. Antibiotics are being recommended by doctors and dermatologists as a last resort to cure acne. Usually, they would prescribe the use of tetracycline or erythromycin, depending on what suits your skin nature. Tetracycline is more effective to cure acne than the erythromycin, but it is not advised for pregnant women and children.

Before you take anything at all that you believe will help cure acne, always make sure that you consult your doctor so you know which methods are safe for you.

Your skin needs to be pampered from time to time. That is why you might find a need to get a skin care treatment once in a while to rest your pores.

There are many available ways to get a skin care treatment. The most popular of which is to go to dermatologists and skin spas that offer a wide variety of services that could help renew and rejuvenate your skin.

Spas and salons can give you facial cleansing treatments that are at most times more intense than what you apply by yourself. These methods can help greatly in getting rid of dead skin and other impurities that could otherwise lead to infections and the formation of acne.

Now, if you do not have a budget for a skin care treatment at expensive salons, then you can always get one at home. Some treatments may not be as good as those gotten in the salons but there are still a quite a few others that have the same effects.

The great thing about having do-it-yourself treatments is that you can adjust the intensity according to what suits you best. Some facial scrubs in salons can be extremely painful but if you do such things yourself, you can adjust it to how much force you would like to exert when scrubbing.

Doing a skin care treatment at home also ensures you that the products that used on your face are not harmful to the skin. Since you can choose them yourself, you can be sure that they are natural and organic. So, instead of spending hundreds for a facial mask, you can actually just use the things found inside your kitchen. This way, you can also save a lot of money which you can then use for other things.

If you are a very busy person and do not have time to do any of these things, never fret because there is still one last hope.

The most basic form of skin care treatment is doing regular washing of your face. Just this simple regimen every night can do wonders to your skin and help prevent acne from breaking out.

You can do this skin care treatment by washing your face with soap and clean water. This is not always advisable though as there are soaps that could contain chemicals that can be harmful to the skin. You may opt to use facial cleansing solutions to remove the dirt off of your face.

There are actually many other ways to get a skin care treatment. All it takes is the courage to get the ones suited to your skin type.

For any woman – and perhaps even men – when acne attacks, the first thing that they do is reach for the concealer, the foundation, the powder and the blusher. Acne is deeply unsightly and is accompanied by many negative social ideas, so it is completely reasonable for the desire to cover acne beneath a layer of make up to become overwhelming. Yet there can be real problems if makeup is layered on top of acne; perhaps the worst of this being, it can actually make your acne worse.

Acne forms because cells and follicles on the skin become blocked, usually due to excess fluid on the skin which then infects a follicle and causes a pimple. Acne is therefore, in it’s very essence, the manifestation of a blockage. Many dermatologists talk of ‘flushing’ the skin out in a bid to remove acne, and this is essentially the idea of remove the blockages and allowing pores and follicles to close naturally. This is how completely untreated pimples heal themselves, by allowing the body’s natural defences to solve the problem.

However, if a thick layer of makeup is applied on top of an already infected follicle and its accompanying pimple, the body is going to struggle to flush the infection away as effectively as it might. You are, by applying makeup, essentially trapping the infection in and making it have nowhere to go. When this is done, the healing times are much longer and the chances of acne recurring are high.

It may seem overly simple to say that one should simply stop covering pimples, particularly when they are such a huge influence on self esteem and confidence. After all, no one likes to go out with acne visible on their face, and the promise of makeup products that can disguise the problem are more than a little alluring. If you cannot stomach the idea of going without your cosmetic companions, there are steps you can take to lessen the effect that make up has on pimples.

When it comes to selecting cosmetics for acne sufferers, the keyword is light. Instead of many products, choose one simple, mineral based product which provides effective coverage. These brands may seem expensive, but by only using one product you are likely to actually save money. Use it sparingly and only when you are going to be seen in public, removing it thoroughly as soon as you are behind closed doors. With these simple changes, the vicious cycle of covering pimples with makeup that in turn cause pimples can be reversed.

It is an unfortunate association, but nevertheless a prevalent one, that acne in both adults and teenagers is caused by a poor lack of personal hygiene. This is particularly unfortunate, given that there is absolutely no truth in it, yet it is a misconception that carries through public consciousness.

There is, absolutely and totally, no link between acne and poor hygiene. Nor will rigorously scrubbing, cleaning or attacking acne skin with a brush do anything but hurt you; such behaviour will have absolutely no effect on acne whatsoever, apart from a detrimental one. There is a chance that fervent scrubbing of acne infected skin will actually make the acne appear worse, as it will just become inflamed from having to withstand such an onslaught.

It is likely that this common myth associated of acne and dirt comes directly from blackheads, a particular type of acnes. Blackheads are caused by excess glands that have accumulated in the duct of sebaceous glands on the skin, and are extremely unsightly. They are raised bumps which often turn yellow or black in colour, which is probably where the association of poor hygiene originates. To the untrained eye, a lot of blackheads on skin do simply appear like lots of small specks of dirt.

This is a general conception that dearly needs to be debunked, but it is unlikely it will ever happen; the concept is simply too ingrained in public conscious. So knowing this, if you suffer from acne, it is important that you rise above – and if possible inform – any comments you receive about acne being caused by a lack of good personal hygiene.

All that is needed to prevent acne is a daily wash of the face, either with just standard soap and water or using a mild and gentle cleanser. In fact, the harsher the cleanser or product you may use – such as some branded acne lotions – the more damage you are doing to your skin in the long term.

Yet the fact remains, and be reassured, that there are plenty of completely clean and hygienic people who suffer from acne. On the other side of the argument, there are also plenty of dirty people with poor personal hygiene who don’t suffer from acne. So put away the scrubbing brush and soap, and look for other ways to resolve acne problems, should they arise.

Many doctors and dermatologists like to say that there is no link between the diet you eat and acne. The concept of what food you eat and this most irritating of skin conditions is often dismissed as a generally known yet common ignorance, and is often debunked routinely in beauty magazines and skincare journals.

Yet, most folklore specialists argue that most common concepts and so-called myths actually have a basis in fact. While this fact is often twisted and a victim of being told many times by many different people, most often the essence of the story has some truth in it. So, has this been the case for the link between diet and acne?

The answer is that no one really knows, as there have been no verified clinical studies that really prove either way. There is some truth in the fact that doctors and dermatologists are not absolutely unbiased when it comes to claiming there is no link between diet and acne; by prescribing drug treatments, a doctor will earn the endorsement of a drug company and some kind of reward is usually standard. However, the idea that doctors are deliberately ignoring more conventional methods of helping a person – such as adjusting their diet – in the pursuit of profit is a controversial one, and one that – of course – all doctors deny.

Yet a quick search through the internet finds plenty of advocates, who seemingly have no financial interest in advocating a diet change yet do so anyway.

The truth of the matter is that altering what is eaten may work for some people in their battle against acne, while for others it won’t. This is probably coupled with a liability to other causes of acne and problems associated with them; the general consensus seems to be that the milder forms of acne are controllable with diet. General advice is to eat plenty of fresh fruit, fish and vegetables as well as cutting back on refined carbohydrates and fats.

Whether this is effective or not is still open for debate, and may well vary from case to case. However, the type of diet suggested by those pioneering a non-medicinal treatment for acne is a good diet for anyone to follow, suggesting healthy eating and a balanced diet. It simply becomes a matter of trying it for yourself. In the worst case scenario you’re eating a diet different from usual, but nevertheless still good for you, and your acne remains unchanged. In the best, you find a simple, non-medicinal cure for your acne and improve your general health, too. The decision is yours.

Acne can be a troublesome and irritating condition, effecting millions of people worldwide for a variety of different reasons. There is a multitude of products available via both prescription and over the counter which can offer supposedly wondrous remedies to even the most severe acne conditions, but their efficacy is at best variable. An acne sufferer could, in theory, spend an awful lot of money on products and effectively what are snake oil remedies, yet they will be no closer to actually solving the problem of acne.

There are, thankfully, some skin care routines actually have been proved to be effective by clinical studies. As with almost anything medicinal, the results vary dependant on person, but the majority of treatments that have some kind of clinical basis actually advocate less expensive methods of acne prevention and cure.

One of the most recognised treatments is a simple three-step method, which involves cleansing, the application of a chemical product and then good moisturising. All of these products can be found cheaply, and what’s more, they have a good level of efficiency on most acne cases. Using such a skin care regime is also useful for acne sufferers who are unwilling, or at least doubtful, about using antibiotic drugs to fight acne. It is far preferable to avoid antibiotics for non life-threatening conditions, so a skin care regime that has a similar level of efficacy as antibiotics should ideally be considered by all.

The first suggestion on this three-step regime is to use a light, gentle cleanser on all skin that is prone to acne (even if there is no acne in the area at present). The purpose of this cleanser should be to remove surface oils and nothing more; don’t select a product that claims to have acne-fighting properties for itself, that stage is dealt with on the next level.

The primary treatment is in the second stage, and involves the application of the chemical benzoyl peroxide at a strength of 2.5%. Benzoyl peroxide oxygenates skin, and acne cannot form on skin treated with this method. A cream or lotion containing 2.5% of the active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide, can be bought at most pharmacies – simply check labels.

The third step is a finishing act, and should involve use of a good quality moisturiser which is applied when the benzoyl peroxide has been absorbed. This helps lessen the effects of a chemical irritation on the skin. Benzoyl peroxide is known to make skin flaky and dry in some cases, and the use of a good moisturiser will counter this effect.

These three steps, used together for a concentrated period of time, have an extremely high chance of succeeding in ridding you of your acne once and for all.

For some, suffering from acne becomes such a problem that no cream or ointment seems to be able to cure the problem. A lifetime of struggling with painful and unsightly spots has lead to medical research into medicinal help for acne, and is therefore available to those suffering from long term acne problems.

Before rushing to the doctor, however, there are a few things one should bear in mind. It is preferable to only view antibiotics for acne as an absolute last measure, when all else has failed. Antibiotics are powerful drugs and have side effects, and repeated antibiotic use can also build up a tolerance that could be problematic should you suffer a serious infection and need antibiotic treatment. There is a point, however, when it is natural to want to solve an acne problem once and for if nothing else appears to be working; in these situations, an appointment with a doctor is an apposite way of proceeding.

There are several different antibiotics licensed for the treatment of acne. As with any drug, they vary wildly in their side effects and also in their efficacy in different people, and there is no guarantee that the first one you are prescribed will be the one to solve the problem. It may well be a case of trial and error, but by taking steps to treatment acne at its root problem – with the primary infection of the hair follicle – the problem can usually be erased.

There are two types of antibiotics most commonly used for acne treatment. The first port of call for most doctors is tetracycline, which is the most used antibiotic for acne in the world and also one of the most effective. It does, however, have its drawbacks; tetracycline needs to be taken on an empty stomach, and cannot be taken by pregnant women or children.

For those for which tetracycline is not applicable, the second most commonly used antibiotic is erythromycin. Unlike tetracycline, this can be taken by anyone – including mothers to be – and can be taken at any time, rather than just with food. Clinical studies have shown it to be minutely less effective than tetracycline, but the difference is minimal and it is an effective solution for those who cannot take tetracycline.

While there are a great many joys to be gained from being pregnant – the feeling of femininity and, of course, the birth of new life and joy at the end of the nine months – there are, unfortunately, many pitfalls when it comes to pregnancy. Alongside the expected weight gain and general sense of being uncomfortable, nature packs a punch at all expectant mothers by increasing their chances of developing acne during the nurturing of a new life.

The link between acne and pregnancy is a very real one, and is – unfortunately – unavoidable for the majority of expectant mothers. This can, in particular, come to a shock to older mothers-to-be who felt their days of acne suffering were long gone.

However, there are some bright points on the horizon. While acne in pregnancy is common, it is at its worst during the first three months of any term; so the chances of having to deal with it and being uncomfortable due to baby carrying weight are less likely. Perhaps this is nature’s way of apologising for the toll pregnancy takes on the female body, ensuring an expectant mother only has to deal with one issue at a time!

Acne during pregnancy is caused by a hormonal surge, which causes the skin to secrete more regularly. Following the first trimester, the problem hormone progesterone is produced at a more manageable level and most cases of pre-natal acne can be dealt with in a more effective manner.

During those problematic first three months, many of the oft used medicinal remedies for acne are not safe for the unborn child and are therefore out of bounds for expectant mothers. Most dermatologists and pregnancy experts promote the use of more natural solutions, with tea tree oil featuring regularly in any advice given to mothers-to-be who are suffering with acne problems. Another well regarded tip is the use of clay masks, which are particularly effective in drawing toxins away from the skin and reducing blackheads in particular.

It is, however, best to discuss your options with your general practitioner doctor to see what other help might be applicable to you. The use of medicinal aids is not a blanket ban, but an advisory one, and a doctor will know which products are suitable for use for those expecting a child.

Looking after your skin can be a pretty tiring process, especially with all of the different things that are expected of you when it comes to doing it right. It can be a pretty thankless procedure, and it can become really tempting to just say “to Hell with it” and not bother with a regime anymore. But instead of that, why not set yourself a treat every once in a while that takes the onus of you and allows you to relax in style while someone else does some of the work for you? Spa or beauty treatments can leave you feeling like a million dollars, but they don’t need to cost anything in that region.

There are a great many treatments you can get at a spa or beauty salon, and you can encourage yourself to stick to a good regime by outsourcing some of the work to these guys every once in a while and allowing yourself to be looked after. If you give yourself that little treat, you will develop your own little effort and reward scheme that pays off in no small way. Perhaps a face mask would be a nice way to unwind? They draw out impurities and leave the skin feeling as fresh as a daisy. An exfoliating rub can be good too – getting rid of dry skin that gets irritated all too easily. And there are plenty of other treatments you can get, all of which will leave you feeling decidedly relaxed.

It doesn’t even need to be expensive. If you have a spa or beauty salon near you, the chances are that they have regular promotions offering free or discounted treatments on certain days if certain conditions are met. Sometimes you will get a two for one deal – so bring a friend and enjoy the company as well as the treatment. It is well worth doing every once in a while – as a treat and as a reminder of the benefits of a good skin care regime.

There is so much information flying back and forwards in this day and age about what a man should be. Should you be a metrosexual, spending as long in the bathroom getting ready to go out as the most fastidious of ladies? Should you be rugged, caring not one iota about such things as crow’s feet, laughter lines and body odour? Should you be some kind of mix, proving your macho credentials while at the same time displaying a certain appreciation for the things that make you handsome and desirable? One sure bet is that whatever you do, you will attract some flak from someone, so you are better off pleasing yourself in the end.

This does not mean just allowing your appearance to do as it wishes, of course. But there is a way of following a male skin care regime that does not make you a perfumed dandy who wishes he had been born female – if that’s what you are scared of. You can show some appreciation for the looks you have been blessed with and not come across as vain. It’s a matter of measure and balance, and if you get it right you will reap the rewards in the form of compliments and more. And the first thing to pay attention to is your shaving routine. It’s not just about splashing on a bunch of cologne after you’re done, and holding in an anguished yell of pain, anymore.

Firstly, you should prepare your skin before shaving. There are several good pre-shave treatments out there, and their benefit is something you will appreciate if you have been shaving for a while. They allow the razor to slide over the skin with a lot less friction than if you just daub on the shaving foam – or gel – and have at it with the razor. As a consequence, you take hair off your face without removing a few layers of skin while you are about it. Then when that is done, apply a good after shave balm. This will cool the skin where there has been friction, and replenish the moisture that has been taken away. And after all that? Then you can splash on the cologne – but remember that even the strongest men scream in pain sometimes.
